I ask for 48 hours notice if you cannot attend a session; otherwise you are required to pay the full session fee.
Counselling aims to help you deal with – and overcome – issues that are causing emotional pain or making you feel uncomfortable.
I will respect your views and support you to understand what is going on for you. A common fear is that the process is painful and uncomfortable. However, as we continue to work together you should gradually start to feel better and will find that your session can be enjoyable!
In most cases it takes a number of sessions before therapy starts to make a difference and a regular commitment is required to make the best use of the therapy.
Transactional Analysis (or TA) helps to explain in simple terms why we think, feel and behave in the way we do.
TA is my core model of therapy, which is very effective in helping people understand their problems and helping people make lasting life changes.
There are three basic philosophical assumptions in Transactional Analysis:
This is the fundamental acceptance that regardless of what you do, no matter what you think, or despite your feelings you are a worthwhile, valuable person in your own right. This principle carries itself directly into the relationship between therapist and client. We are both equal. We share the responsibility of achieving the agreed therapeutic goal.
If we have all got the capacity to think then we have all got the capacity to work out what we want and work out how to get there. My job is to support and guide you in this task; you do not need anyone else to decide for you. You know what’s best for you. For many clients entering therapy it may not feel this way when they start. Some feel confused and unsure and are looking for the therapist to tell them what to do. I will work with you to help make sense of and clear this confusion.
If we got to where we are today because of the decisions that we made, then it’s within our power to change these decisions. We can be who we want to be and achieve our goals if that’s what we choose to do. This is not always easy. Small changes may start the process and build up to larger changes when it feels safe.
Most insurance companies like AXA PPP, Bupa and Aviva and your workplace EAP will offer up to 12 therapy sessions at no extra cost to you. WORTH CHECKING OUT!
Following our initial telephone conversation, the next step is to make an appointment to meet face to face if that feels right for you. At this first meeting you will have an opportunity to discuss your needs and expectations of therapy. You can find out more about me and my style of therapy. If you feel that my therapy style suits you, we can then agree to begin work and schedule a regular appointment that fits in with your life.
